EU withdrawal button: quick self-check before June 19 2026

EU DTC founders: June 19, 2026 is no longer a future compliance date.

Under Directive (EU) 2023/2673, online sellers that give EU consumers a withdrawal right need a clearly visible electronic withdrawal function, not just buried returns wording.

One audit finding from this week: I checked several EU Shopify stores that looked polished. Most had a returns portal or account return flow, but I could not find a standalone withdrawal button/link plus a confirmation path on the public pages I checked. That gap is easy to miss because “returns” and legal “withdrawal” are not the same customer journey.

Quick self-check:

  1. Can a customer find the withdrawal option without reading your terms?
  2. Is it separated from normal returns/exchanges/support tickets?
  3. Does the customer actively confirm the withdrawal request?
  4. Do they receive confirmation by email or another durable medium?
